Valedictory Session QnA Contd....

Question: In order for us to get ahead in the game and considering the shortage of Skills and adaptable Management depth, what are some of our initiatives to create a steady superior middle level Management adapted to the future market demands.
Ganesha: Training them to be quality conscious, have strong adherence to deadlines and focus on innovation and creativity. All firms are making efforts to ensure this.

Question: In order for us to get ahead in the game and considering the shortage of Skills and adaptable Management depth, what are some of our initiatives to create a steady superior middle level Management adapted to the future market demands.
Ganesha: There are a number if initiatives being taken by industry either through its own resources or through collaborations with customers as well as academic institutions to build a competent middle management cadre. An example is the Zensar Centre for Business Innovation which has launched a successful one year Business Transformation Analyst program to build 100 managers with domain, technology and management skills.
Question: Isn’t the view of the Industry Leaders changing the focus from America to Europe as the “prominent revenue generator” for IT and ITES industry shows our inability to structure our Business processes and Business Policies as it can’t sustain the unexpected fluctuations of the World Market? Shouldn’t we have understood the importance of a balanced and optimal distribution of regions across the globe which can balance the ups and downs of the Global Market? The next question popping up would be which continent we would focus next after a civil war or economical slow down in Europe with Dollar still losing itself against Rupees?
Ganesha: It is a fact that the US has been the dominant market for the Indian IT and BPO sector but the focus on expanding the opportunities in Europe or Asia has been there for quite some time and is not some kind of a knee-jerk response to a specific situation.

Dear Dr. Ganesh, Greetings!

I have just started browsing the comments made by you on quality /talent etc in the IT industry.

My basic question is that how do we justify the quality .I trust One should include innovative aspect - in quality, which is not yet included-as this also adds to quality of solution-long term/short term, more effective /less effective- unfortunately this aspect is not considered at all now a days.

So there is some thing like CQI= Company Quality Index which should be evolved. The detail modeling could be talked later- but broadly say there are 3 teams doing the same work: team- 1)2 A graders and 1-B Graders team -2) 2 B graders and 1-B graders 3) 2 B and 1 D graders.

With the current ways of measuring the quality the output of all the three should be similar!Though innovative aspect or other aspects like robustness..etc might be hidden. Though they add value to quality but not accounted for .

It is this CQI- which is the key to company's survival in the future.

All your comments are welcome.

Dear Sir:

I am writing this in the context of what Nasscom can do for the benefit of all Indians for preventing a Subprime in India in the near future.

As we know 50% of the Homes booked is by IT employees. The IT guys are not financial genius generally and pay whatever the builder says making the prices skyrocketing even in Tier Two cities. In Pune, we have big projects with 5000 + apartments coming up. If half a dozen projects crop up in this scale, the demand supply ratio may change and default ratio can make the situation in a whole mess. And with the current Market conditions looking down, no one would want a Housing sector collapse.

Nasscom with its wide reach can tie up with atleast 100 top realty players in the Top 200 cities for a fixed pricing for the employees of its members with a discount from the Initial offer, Say if the project opens with Rs. 3000/- then IT / ITES members employees should get it at atleast Rs. 2,850/- per sq ft. This will limit the pricing and as well as help builders garner a fixed amount of bookings from the IT sector specifically.

NASSCOM can also have a program for its member employees regarding costing of House construction, which is not more than Rs.1,000/- including land for which these guys are paying Rs. 3,500/- or more. They are booking like there is no tomorrow and the greedy reality sector is
also increasing rates which seems to be like they are digging their own graves.

I am writing this in particular because, the GDP of India was $805 Bil / GNI per capita was $730 ( Rs.30,660/- pa & Rs. 2555/- pm).

http://www.economywatch.com/world_economy/world-economic-indicators/world-gdp.html

An apartment costing Rs. 35 Lakhs and above cannot be dreamed by a common man and only the IT / ITES employee or executives in other industries can afford it.

If this is taken seriously I guess we can put this activity in third gear and avoid a costly accident particularly billing pressure is there for the IT / ITES industry from all parts of the world.

Thank you.
